I purchased the Inspiron 9400 and what I thought were Factory Restore CDs. They are not! They are drivers and not even all that are required. The Intel wireless internet drivers are missing. The application for MediaDirect is missing, the Sonic DVD application is missing and the trial McAfee Anti-Virus software is missing. Only the Intel drivers are available via internet download. Apparently, Dell does not provide true Factory Restore CDs. I believe this is unacceptable to all computer owners who need to occassionally restore their computer to the factory delivered configuation (especially to those who do not always have access to the internet.) The Dell approach puts a very time consuming, complex and error prone process upon the computer owner and in the end does not deliver to the user that which they purchased.
Is there is any way to convince Dell to at least optionally provide Factory Restore CDs. If not, Dell should provide the computer owner with the means to create a Factory Restore CD from the original system hard drive. Also, Dell should advise the new computer owner of the problems they will have if they do not create the CD before anyother use.
From the postings, it's obvious I am not the only customer harmed by Dell 's software policy.
Perhaps a class action would be appropriate. Is there a counselor available?
I will not recommend the purchase of a Dell computer to anyone until this deficiency is rectified. Without the software, the hardware is useless: It wouldn't even make a good anchor for my boat.

Thank you for your attention.
In the future, by using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.
In the history of Dell they have NEVER provided Factory Restore CDs and likely never will. However, your complaint is easily resolved by you hitting CTRL F11 on reboot and using the Dell PC Restore function as described hundreds of times.
I recently purchased an XPS400 and was upset to see it came without any type of recovery CD's. I since then have called XPS support and requested these CD's and they are to arrive today. I personally prefer to do a full format and clean install of windows and drivers if needed.

Yeah, right.... You are on the go and your HDD crashes. You go to the nearest store, purchase new HDD and... have no way of putting your software back. You need your computer same day. And what are your options? None.
That's "great" service, Dell! :(
