Files Transfer to new computer

I purchased PC Mover--and it is proving incredibly sensitive. Have spent several hours tring to get it work, and am presently chatting with tech support to give it one last go.  If I am unable to make it work, what other  alternatives are there  to transfer files from old PC to New?   I tried using file transfer wizzard, but  with the laplink cable that came with PC mover, never found a connection.  I am just preparing for the eventuality that I will have  to find some other way.  Does regular file transfer wizzard introduce danger of transferrring spyware? Will I need a regular USB cable?

The easiest way is to temporarliy connect the hard drive from the old PC in the new one (providing you have the IDE interface).  You can temporarily use one of the CD/DVD drive connections if it is IDE.  Then just do a disk to disk copy of the user data you want.  You can't move programs as they have to be installed using the programs installation program - just user data, music, etc.

You can still use the Wizard and burn everything on CDs (F.A.S.T. can span multiple CDs on most burners)

    Here are good instructions

Sorry, I can`t create hyperlinks at the moment.

OR , you can take the hard drive out of your old computer, set the jumper to Slave, and then put it in the new PC. Then you can copy the files over using Windows explorer in the normal way.

OR if both PC's have a network card you can use a CAT5 crossover cable to hook the 2 PC's together and transfer the files over the network

The new computer is a laptop, so not sure how I would insert the old hard-drive.  What about file transfer wizard? I looked at amazon--routinely bad reviews for PC mover. Any fool-proof, easy to use file transfer software.  The tech chat person at PC Mover said my comp was the problem, that it was some sort of "access violation" error.  Interrogated him further and he said it happens on a "very limited" number of computers.  Sure.  Of course they will deny all accountability.  If reviews on amazon are any indication, this software is junk.  I need a winer that will NOT waste hours of my precious time.

I purchased an external drive, transferred my files that way.  Spread the dirt about PC Mover.  Thanks everyone.
