help me stop the startups

Hi...I was wondering if someone could help me out here?
I have some things like messangers and the weather bug that start loading as soon as i turn the computer on, my question is, how can I get them to not start on turn on but only if I choose to use them?

Start > All Programs > Right click on startup > Select all users > then delete the shortcuts you don't want started.

I didn't mention that because I didn't want him to unselect something that should be left.

Try this, goto start, run, type in msconfig, click ok, when the system configuration utility box comes up, click on the "startup tab", uncheck the boxes next to the programs that you don't want to startup when you turn the computer on. Doing this should take care of that problem.

There are only about 3-4 things that have to stay checked. It will be safe to uncheck the messenger & weatherbug.

    danga2801,

Another option for controlling startups is the freeware program here.

To think that for-profit companies like aol are letting you use all their software with no payback is not a reasonable assumption. Here's a writeup you might find interesting.

The definition of spyware should be based on how much personal info you're willing to give up to use the product. You make the call but realize that there *still* isn't anything free in this world.

Take the "Privacy Test" and see what info is given out without bringing in the spyware issue.
