Help with computer shut down ............
I got my computer on 12/22/04 .... Dimension 4700 Series ...... Running Windows XP Home Edition. 512 MB DDR 2 SDRAM at 400 MHz. Up until now, everything has been running pretty smoothly ...... I started it up this morning and just started to get ready to dial up to the internet and the whole screen went blue and said ..........................
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to preven damages to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disc space. If a driver is identified in stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select safe mode.

So, I tried calling Dell....was on the phone for 15 minutes, got tired of waiting, decided to come here hoping someone could help me!!!! I did check in system resources......I right now have 233.84 Available Physical memory out of 512.00MB .... is this normal? My system is new. I then went into control panel, add/delete programs, there were a few things I wanted to get rid of that I don't use...such as dell dance something and a story thing, neither of wich I've ever used on here...checked system resources again, I then had 232.54 available...it when down instead of going up? I defragment on reguraly ..... My available disc space is 67.6GB with only 3.94GB being used. So I'm not understanding what this "memory dump" thing is .... And should I be worried about this whole stop error thing I got, and is there something I should do to prevent it from coming back again? Hope someone can help me, as you can tell ..... I'm not the most computer "literate" person in the world lol :smileyvery-happy:
Thanks so much,
Shannon
