How can I get the real XP installation CD?

Is it possible to get the real full XP installation CD from Dell. I don't mean the "reinstallation" CD that came with the computer.  I read somewhere that since we paid for the OS, we're entitled to the CD.

The reinstallation CD is a real installation CD.  It has everything that the retail CD has on it and nothing more.  The only difference between the reinstallation CD and a retail CD, is that the reinstallation CD can only be used on a Dell computer.

Interesting! I thought it was sort of a "ghost" CD that would overwrite the HD to the way it looked when it was shipped. (That wouldn't be a bad thing to have either).

Some Dell computers also ship with a feature called PC Restore. This has an image of the original installation on a separate partition on the hard drive.  It has been discussed extensively on these forums, as has your original question about the reinstallation CD.
