First off I do not want a different browser so please don't recommend that as a fix.
Ok I have had this problem for a while now at it is getting very annoying. If I click a hyperlink within a webpage the main page closes and the link page appears but fully minimized. I don't mind the minimized thing but having the main page constantly closing gets very annoying. Also another thing I have noticed is I cannot open a second webpage. When I try this I do not get a second page icon on my task bar. All it does is make the Icon I do have blink once as if refreshing.
Things I have tried..
-removed all pop up blocking software
-downloaded and ran quite a few spyware programs
-anti virus (fully updated) has found nothing
-removed IE, shut down my pc and reloaded IE
-downloaded Netscape Navigator (problem persists)
-compared all of the IE settings with my other pc which does not have this problem
-IE service packs all up to date.
I have looked around on the net trying to see if anyone else has this problem. I found a similar posting to my problem but nobody offered a solution. I am starting to think this is not a IE settings problem but a WIndows one now.
Tegeras, I am writing this a second time because Dell server went down and all was lost. IE6 is integrated with XP so you can not remove it. There are ways to fool Windows in thinking that it needs to install IE, but lets not get into that. Try this,
R-click the shortcut icon for IE, choose properties, change the size from normal to maximize. Open it. R-click a link in a web page, choose, "Open in New Window." Don't maximize it, use the mouse to drag it as big as you want it. Close the FIRST window by keep holding the CTRL button down and using File, Exit. (not the red X) Then close the new one down you just resized by the same method, CTRL; File,Exit. If this doen't work try using the Shift key instead of the CTRL.
Check this setting in Internet Options, under the Advanced tab. Make sure the check box is cleared for "Reuse Windows..."
There is a small program to force explorer windows maximized, but I don't think you want to try that yet.
The problem I am having is very similar and oh so frustrating. As I am logged in to a website, If I click on a link it will open in the same window. Not a big deal you may think, just hit the back arrow.... Nope, not available, it's greyed out as this considers itself the original page now. This is very frustrating when using search engines as each time you need to log back into the search engine and re-create the search. It is especially painful for my wife who uses the internet explorer window to log into her office system. Once she logs in and clicks a link, that's as far as she can go. She now needs to log back into office system... guess what? error indicating she's already logged in, now she has to wait 5 minutes for the application to log her off.... Any help is sincerely and gratefully accepted. Thanks, robecker (IE 6.0 Win XP Pro)
Have you tried the settings in Internet Options, clear the check mark in "Reuse Windows"?
Could you try another browser to see if it still happens? It may be spyware that is causing this. Try the free spyware remover Spybot, use this
LINK for downloading it.
Also, try this free spyware remover Ad-aware, use this
LINK for download it. Always remember to update these programs before scanning.
I have not been using IE6 for some time now. I am currently using MyIE2 which is now Maxthon. Another great browser is Avant Browser. Both with tabs across the top so you can always get back to the first page. Also, if you use Google as a search engine, there is a preference that you can always open the search in a new page.
