Are you logged onto an account with Adminstrator priveledges when you try to do this?  Are you running Antivirus software with up to date virues defintions?  Have you checked your system for spyware with several different antispyware programs and removed all of the spyware found?

steve thank you for the reply. yes i am logged in as an adminstrator. yes my macafee is all up to date.  i have scaned my computer for spyware and any unwated programs.  i have defraged the hard drive. run scan disk.  i have even turned macafee security off and then tried to change the security level. i have even turned microsoft firewall off and tried to change the security level.  my internet connection is broadband through comcast.

there was a another post similar to my problem over in another forum:

i guess the next step is going to be turing both macafee and microsoft secuity tools off at the same time and then try. but i may have done that already can't remeber.  so i will try it again
