Not sure if this is the right area to post this in. For the last two days whenever I try to connect to a certain website,
www.passporter.com, it starts to load the page then switches to Dell's search page and gives me a message of "Sorry we couldn't locate page: http://serv.adspeed.com/ad.php%3Fdo"
Can someone please tell what this is and how to fix it? I have a Inspiron 1505 with Windows XP. I have cleared everything such as temp files, cookies and history. This doesn't seem to help I have also ran spyware and checked for viruses. The first time this happened it did seem to help but now its happening again.
An IE error message something like “cannot connect, Web page has expired or IE cannot display the webpage”, normally means the web site server you are trying to connect to is either down/unavailable or is having problems.
Sometimes the URL web page then switches to the data value for Default_Page_URL
If you check this data value in Registry Editor path folder, HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main, it’s probably the Dell web page that you refer to?
Bell boy, I have no idea. I listed the url that I get in my message. It just seems strange to me that in it it doesn't say anything about the website that I am trying to access.
bell boy, thanks for the input. I have since posted the same on the webpage in question and others have confirmed that they too were having problems as well which leads me to believe that as you stated it was the site in questions issue.
Not sure if I’ve fully understood your problem but when I try the web site URL you mention www.passporter.com I get the error message “IE cannot display the webpage”
As already stated, it normally means the web site URL server is down/unavailable.
Last time I experienced automatic switching (or redirecting) to Default_Page_URL (the DELL MyWay web page) was during June/July 2006.
It was complicated because I couldn’t connect to my ISP’s IE Home page, because the ISP web site server was down.
Complicated since just at the same time FW & AV software updates also started causing problems (Norton, ZA etc.) due to update default settings blocking IE Home page changes, resulting in browser auto redirecting to Default_Page_URL web page.
The IE Home page change blocking problem cause & it’s fix is now very well documented in this Forum.
