Hmm, this forum page has some further information. And this web page would seem to disagree. Secure Boot has been around for a lot longer than 4 years. And if you go to the support page for your E7470 and specifically this BIOS update page, you will see under fixes listed is this statement:

- Fixed an issue with Secure Boot Option ROM Signature Verification.

I may be wrong but my money is on the possibility that you have an old BIOS version.

@BarbXPS7100 - Let me also add that you should image your HDD before making any of those changes to BIOS etc, to be safe.

You can use imaging app like Macrium Reflect (free) or any other imaging app of your choice. Save the image on an external USB drive. Imaging apps will also create the bootable USB stick you'd need to restore an image made by that specific app. So be sure to create the USB stick with your app before you start changing things.

Also some very good information I received from @RoHe (a very big thank you for this information) which I have pasted below:

There is a  TPM2 firmware update for this model that "Fixed the issue where TPM option does not show up under Windows with previous TPM firmware."  So maybe the OP needs to run that.

And there's also this TPM 1.2 firmware update that "Added TPM 1.2/2.0 mode switch support from TPM 2.0 firmware version 1.3.2.8.", so OP may need to run this one first.

OP says she couldn't enable Secure Boot, even though the manual says it's enabled by default. BUT, if the Legacy Option ROMs option has been enabled (disabled by default), Secure Boot can't be enabled. And no Secure Boot = No TPM.

Microsoft made the decisions about what CPUs are -or not- supported with Win 11. And your E7470 is not on Dell's list of PCs supported for Win 11.

Win 10 will be supported until Oct.2025 so you can continue to use your PC, just as you have been...

Why is this processor not supported? What are my alternatives other than buying a new laptop?

I have 2 x E7470.  I was able to upgrade the TPM from 1.2 to 2.0 on machine A.  So, I was able to install Windows 11 on A.  On machine B, I cannot upgrade the TPM.  Machine B is installed with McAfee and is McAfee encrypted.  After removing the encryption, I was able to update to TPM 2.0.  But Microsoft won't allow me to update as machine B is a member of Active Directory.  I am working on removing the membership.

While working on machine B, I thought of swapping the SSD.  Windows 11 of A was moved to B.  But Windows 11 crashed.  can't system restore.  Moved it back to machine A.  still can't get it back to work.  reinstalled Dell OS back to 10.  TPM is now showing 1.2 when it was 2.0 prior.  Strange.  And I can't update to 2.0.  When it allowed me before.  But when I checked, it is still showing 1.2.  Very Strange.

I will check the web if I can update TPM to 2.0 using USB instead of Windows 10.

But I'm saying, this can be done.  Windows 11 can work on E7470.  And Dell can help in the process. If they can fix the TPM 2.0 update.

After reading this series of posts I decided to purchase a Dell e7470 used on Ebay for $240 total cost.

Windows 10 Pro installed 16G RAM 512G SSD. I performed both TPM software updates, made the appropriate bios settings as described above. Installed Windows 11 with boot USB drive. Everything worked out. I now have Windows 11 installed. Errors encountered - 1) Must Clear TPM    2) " A configuration change was requested to enable, activate, clear, and activate the TPM .......etc Press F12 to enable or Press ESC to reject. This error cause some grief but pressing the F12 early in the boot process seemed to make it work then removed the USB drive.

@grandeurs​ what is the procedure to upgrade from 1.2 to 2, please guide. either it is hardware resetting or software based upgradation? i have dell e7470.

you can get a secure boot with the latest bios updates, also you can get TPM2 from here
