my dsl software wont load

hello ppl here is my problem i have an XPS 400 with windows xp media center 2005 when i got the computer i tried to load the verizon DSL software on it and restarted the computer to finish the installation process and i got a blue screen with stop on it. after hours of trying somehow i loaded the drivers for the modem and got connected but i dont have the software loaded.  i was wondering if anyone else had this problem and is the DSL software compatible with this operating system.

Why do you need the DSL software?  More often than not, you only need the drivers for the modem and/or router.  Create your connection using XP.

jmwills is correct. DSL modems are usually preconfigured to connect without any software. ALso uncheck the box in the connections (Internet options) for automatically detect LAN settings, and your ipconfig will find your connecting server IP under DHCP.
Also if you are connecting through a router, you have to provide the default gateway IP for it and run it under the same subnet!

True. I tried installing the Verizon DSL software Nov.1, and it would lock up my computer while running tests on my modem. I called the Verizon tech, and he helped me get online without the software. (I did install the USB driver from the CD, that's all, but now use a router)
