Mystery icon

Ever since I started using a  Dimension 4400 with Windows XP Home, a mysterious icon appears on my desktop at random. The name is simply ~, and in the properties it's listed as a .rar extension, but the file doesn't open. It shows to be File type: File; Description: ~; Size: 293 KB; Location: Desktop. I can't tell that it does anything, or how it gets there, but I just keep deleting it everytime I see it.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks so much! That's a relief. I thought it could be something sinister.

I think you can right click and rename the "~" file to "address.wab" and it will be an exact backup of your address book if you want to check it out.

The ".wab" file extension is for the address book.
