Hello,

 

About 3 months ago I bought a re-conditioned XPS 410, dual core, 4 gigs ram, and a nvidia 7900 gs video card.  Everything worked great for several weeks, then one weekend I noticed my system sounds had disappeared.  All other sounds still work.  Games are ok, Music is ok, I can even go into the speech recognition tools, and hear the lady doing a test. But I get no "swoosh", "Bleeps", or other Vista system sounds?

 

I have tried replacing the drivers many times.  I have checked to make sure that the system sounds weren't turned off.  I made sure that the Volume levels were high. I have triple checked my Sound Control Panel and everything seems normal.  I will say that if I click on a sound and "test" it, i do not hear it; however, if I navigate to that folder (windows\Media) and double click on a wave file, it does play thru the player?

 

I drives me crazy because everything else seems to work. Anyone have any thoughts?  What could possibly make the system sounds not work but everything else does?

 

It baffles me?
