NTLDR IS MISSING AT STARTUP

Got a new 160G hard drive, reinstalled XP 2 months ago, filled it with a lot of music, defraged it with less than 15% space left, restarted and keep getting the message that the NTLDR is missing.....cannot to start in safe mode.....anyway to get around it without backing up hard drive and reinstalling XP????

Thank you for the link but I had no luck.....The first two options don't pertain to me because I originally had XP and reinstalled with XP. The OS took up 11G's of my hard drive...normal??? As for the third option, I tried many different commands and I keep getting "The path or file specified is not valid." I followed the copy command from this link, a different way with a Dell rep and the specified way the help suggests on the recovery console???? C:\>copy x:\i386\ntldr [I have left this blank and specified paths to my hard drive but I keep getting that it's not valid....what should I type here for the destination???] I am working with a different XP disc that didn't come with my computer....problem???? Ordered copies from Dell, should get soon....

Did you add the assigned drive letter of the CD/ROM you are using, to the C:\>copy x:\i386\ntldr command?

If this does not work, try a repair reinstall of XP.

    What is the computer model?

    Bev.

    3. Type bootcfg.

     4. This should fix any boot.ini errors causing setup not to see the  XP OS
          install.

......when I type this, it just gives me the proper commands for my computer.....Dell Inspiron 1100, old school from '03 which I put a 120G hard drive in....(up from a 20G)????????????????????????????????????????

I was able to copy these files from my disc (D) to my hard drive

    copy D:\i386\ntldr C:\
    copy D:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\

These files I couldn't type the proper command???????

(two other files needed - just in case)

    1. Type: attrib -h -r -s C:\boot.ini del C:\boot.ini

    2. Type: BootCfg /Rebuild....this one gives me an error message: Failed to sucessfully scan disks for Windows installations. This error may be caused by a corrupt file system, which would prevent Bootcfg from successfully scanning. Use chkdsk to detect any disk errors. I checked disk and in good condition...chkdsk /p to completely check..... say's the volume contains one or more unrecoverable problems.....doesn't even run disk, just gives me reply immediately. Should be fine because I just got it from Dell???

Lastly, I run bootcfg /list to list all entries and it tells me that there are currently no boot entries available to display.

Repair reinstall has never come up as an option with everything I have tried???? I get C:Partition1 [FAT]  152617MB <3MB free>    and another    Unpartitioned space    8MB     justs asks me if I want set up XP, create or delete the partition
