When I spellcheck an email, OE uses the french dictionary. I have tried changing the option to English but after clicking "apply" and closing the box, it returns to the french dictionary. I have checked the other MS products with spell check (Word and Excel); they are set to english and work ok. Any other suggestions?
Mary - The Regional & Language Settings indicate english and
I unchecked all other languages under the advanced tab. Still no luck, OE still uses the french dictionary. It must be a conspiacy!
Check you computer for Spyware & Delete using these FREE Programs.
Update before checking.
You can get FREE program called Spybot from;
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ If you install with Blind Icons you also get extra Immunize Options
"Lock IE Home Page"
"Lock Hosts file"
"Lock use of Internet Options from IE" > Tools > Internet Options
Use Update 1st before Immunize.
Also has other Tools , like Edit of Auto Startup Programs.
Allow install to create new folder
Use OE "Create Mail" & Right click on 2nd Toolbar & select Customize to add ABC / Spelling
You can also use Inbox >Tools >Options >Spelling to set items.
Correct me if I am wrong. OE dosen't have a spell check.
You need Microsoft Outlook installed to have the spell check option.
Open Microsoft Outlook, click tools, options.
On the spelling tab make sure English is the language in the box.
Hope this helps.

Okay, you're wrong. Outlook Express uses the dictionary in Word (or a couple of other Microsoft Office applications) to provide a spelling check function. billff is doing all the correct things by selecting English on the spelling tab of Tools|Options but that selection is not retained.
Thanks. Actually I use Spybot from time to time. It had an update last week so I downloaded it and ran the program. Still no change in the OE dictionary.
I'll think I'll continue to try and find a fix for the spellcheck before downloading a different one.
