Outlook Express and .bak files

I have been trying to find out why I keep getting a series of .bak files in my recycle bin when I have not deleted anything. It appears that when OE goes through the "Compact All" message and you click OK these .bak files-I seem to have 9 of these files-appear in the Recycle Bin. From doing a bit of research this seems to have something to do with a Microsoft Security Patch for OE (923694).  Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes. This feature was implemented with the update you reference. It allows you to recover your OE *.dbx files if they should become corrupted during the compaction process.

Instructions for using the *.bak files to recover are found @
in the section titled "If the mail folder is corrupted while a database is being compacted after you install this update, follow these steps to restore the folder."

If after compaction your email is fine you can empty them from the Recycle Bin.

Datapod, Thanks for site and explanation. I just started to see these .bak files appear in the recycle bin and have been watching the forum to see if anyone else has noticed this.
