PowerDVD 4 Patch?

Here is my problem. My WMP10 does not play DVDs anymore for some odd reason. When I put one in and try to play it, it says the proper codec could not be found. So, I have been using PowerDVD 4. Despite reinstalling both WMP10 and PowerDVD at least twice, it still does not play DVDs. Finally I decided to contact CyberLink recently and they told me to get the Dell update for PowerDVD 4 on Dell's website. I cannot find it, though I doubt it will do much good. Could someone point me in the direction of the patch or update, or tell me why my WMP10 isn't playing DVDs?

Go to the Dell Support site and use the navigation tool using either your Express Service Code or your computer model.  After making the final selection (operating system) click on the "Downloads" link for your model.  You should find any available updates there for download.

I did that before, but the only updates were for PowerDVD 5, and I have 4.0.13

Yes, it is OEM straight from Dell. But I could not find any updates less than 5.0, and Technical support wouldn't point me in the right direction either. They wanted money to do that. They couldn't even tell me where to find the update.

Was this version OEM installed on your computer when received from Dell?  If so, any updates should be available for download at the Dell Support site.  If however, it is "retail" copy of the software (purchased separately from the computer) then, it is Cyberlink who should provide access to any support or patches.

What is your computer series (Dimension, etc.), its model number and operating system as shipped from Dell.

    Hi

I had a similar problem after upgrading to a new video card. PowerDVD 4 no longer worked as it was incompatible with the card and no updates for version 4 were availabe. I solved the problem by purchasing a new OEM disk of PowerDVD version 5 from Ebay for $1. Of course shipping will add to that but your still looking at a fix for well under $10.

I have a Dimension 8300 and Windows XP.

Also, I am having a problem with WMP10, not PowerDVD. PDVD4 works fine.

    oops, My apologies.

I see now after carefully reading your first post that your PowerDVD was not the problem.

Excuse my ignorance but I think I am missing a step and I am a bit curious. Why did you contact Cyberlink for the problem with WMP10?

See if the patch found on THIS PAGE is the one you referenced for Cyberlink's PowerDVD4. On the WMP 10 problem, it's not a Dell or Cyberlink issue (since it did not come installed) but it could be a number of things from the program's settings to a bad install.
