My system came with several software titles that appear to have been either written for Dell or added their logos. The download site at Dell does not show the latest updates that are available at the vendors site i.e. Roxio Movie Creator, Paint Shop Pro 8. For instance, PSP8 that I have is version 8.05 but the update available at the JASC website is 8.10. Either Dell's support site for updates/patches is out of date or vendor software updates are not recommended. I have downloaded the update from JASC but now I am afraid to install the update in case it interferes with the enhancements that may be contained in the software that has the Dell name embedded in it. What should I do? Roxio also has several updates not shown at Dell.

Thanks for any suggestions.
Dell doesn't provide updates to commercially available packages. If the software is just labeled as Dell, you should be able to find out on the vendor's site if the patch is applicable. In some cases, it will say that OEM software cannot be updated, in other cases it's fine to update it.
I tried the update downloaded from Jasc for Paint Shop Pro 8 version 8.0.5 to 8.1.0 and this is what I got when trying the install....
"Warning: You have Paint Shop Pro 8 - Dell Edition installed. This patch only works with standard Jasc software edition of Paint Shop Pro 8. You must exit this installation and obtain the correct patch installation for your edition of Paint Shop Pro 8"
Any ideas? Dell does not appear to have this update patch available in the download page.
What you received on your computer was a reduced capability version of Paint Shop Pro. The theory behind this, and other "evaluation" software that is preinstalled is that you will try it and if you like it, update to the retail version. For this reason, there are normally no updates to the preinstalled software from the vendor and never from Dell.
Dell must have forgpt to mention this when I ordered online. The custom configurater does not mention anything about "limited" software. It was never represented as a less than normal software. This was not a "freebie" I had to pay extra to have this installed. Now I feel kinda ripped off or swindled. I get a one time, no update software at full price. I might as well purchased a basic package and bought all my software somewhere else and I would have been much better off. So how do I address this within Dell to get righted on this?
There was no charge for the limited software that came with your system, nor could you have gotten a lower price on the system had you specified that you did not wish to have it installed. Bundling "evaluation" software with computer systems is common practice. Any software which is provided at a cost to you is so specified.
No I think that might be incorrect. When I got down to the configuration of the machine it had a section "Dell Picture Studio" it was an additional expense and listed PSP8 as included if I chose it. I certainly did not realize that I would be getting a limited version or I would not have selected it and been charged the additional amount.
