Problem with Adobe Reader 7.0 and any prior versions
I was happily using my new Dell and adjusting from 4 years of an e-Machine. I had no problems with the Adobe Reader and the stats said that I had last used it on 9/26/05. Yesterday I wanted to look at a PDF brochure and no way could I get the Reader to work. The following is the verbatim error message that came up when I attempted to use and then again later to reinstall 7.0 and also 6.0:

Error 1311. Source file not found: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Setup Files\RdrBig\ENU\Data1.cab. Verify that the files exists and that you can access it.

Here are a few of the things I did.
- Verified that I don't have that file;
- Tried to restore to the September date;
- Removed 7.0 and 6.0 (via add/remove);
- Returned to Adobe.com and tried to download;
- Unable to do so, same error message came up;
- Restored back so I had 7.0 and 6.0 back on, of course in a non-working state, and
- Tried to read some of the MSN information and also posts to MSN newsgroups.
Then I stumbled here and found out that some people do speak English as I know it. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me. If you speak English and not Computer I will be even happier.
This mess has stalled my job search and now I have 6 (not 4 as my moniker states) starving cats at my feet as I am glued to my chair.

Thanks for the swift answer. That file also does not exist on this PC. What is next in the list of things to try?
Yes, this is my first Dell at home. Prior to this I have had at home a Gateway (actually 2) and an eMachine.
I had Dell at work, but we had an MIS department. I will look into the other things you spoke about, but alas, only when I have this problem resolved.

Uninstall any copies of Acrobat Reader (6.0 and/or 7.0) from the system. Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Adobe. If there is an Acrobat 7.0 folder in the Adobe folder right-click and delete it. Then go back here and see if you can dowload Reader again. (When the dialog opens giving you the chance to save the download rather than running it, select Save. You may find it helpful to create a folder called "Downloads" or something similar into which such files can be directed for possible later use.)

When you tried to download reader 7.0 did you download it or run it from the Adobe site? Your original download may still be on your computer, as AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe. If so, you can try reinstalling from that file.
