Problem with RUNDLL32.exe??

Hi

Recently I have been having some problems using Windows XP on my Dell PC. The two main things I have noticed are:

(i) it is not possible to search for "files or folders" in start menu (upon selecting this item no window opens) - sometimes this freezes the control bar at bottom of screen, but items on desktop are accessible.

(ii) Problems on shutting down - the system sends an error in shutting down "RUNDLL32.exe" i.e. choice of end Now or cancel - sometimes the system also freezes, and the only way to reset is to turn off at mains...

Any help greatly appreciated,

Andrew

This is possibly related to spyware.  Try running ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy.  Make sure both are updated before you do.  Links to both are below my signature.
