How do I access and change the programs that automatically start and continuse to run "in the background?" Example- P2P, peer points manager, wild tangent, etc?
Most of this stuff is installed with Kazaa which installs a load of spyware and will not run without the spyware. The first thing to do is get rid of Kazaa and find an alternative that does not require spyware. Then see go to the Virus Information and Removal forum and read a few messages and replies that talk about how to get rid of all the garbage installed along with Kazaa.
Get Ad-Aware and update the signatures to find all the spyware, run sysedit.exe to see if things are starting in the files, check the Startup 'All Programs' folder and check the 'run' and 'runonce' keys in the registry. You can also go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and get the 'powertoys' for your OS and see what is starting in a easier way. You can always ask a quick question on the phone, my contact info is on my site http://www.theitdoctor.com .
