Re-installing ME

I'm trying to help a colleague with a dimension 2100 that orginally came with Windows ME. They had a friend install 2000 on it. It has a virus on it that I can't remove. I'd like to format hard drive and re-install ME. I have the original disks that came with the pc. I don't know how to re-install ME.

I'd appreciat any help.

Thanks,
Mike

Since ME is now unsupported with security updates, you would be better off without it, but if you must reinstall, see below. I would NOT use ME with any online application requiring any security (i.e., taxes, banking, purchases, etc.).

Some years ago I had to reinstall ME on my old computer. It involved loading the BIOS defaults, formatting the hard drive, installing the operating system, installing the drivers. I had 2 CDs - operating system, and drivers. The drivers had to be installed in a particular order. I have to say that I downloaded all instructions from the Dell site, they were extremely well written - if you are sure about reinstalling ME I hope you are able to find them, they have to be followed step by step.

If you really need to install Win Me, Dell's approach is the generic one found here:

It is an interactive routine so it would be best if you stepped through it and printed the pages you need.

          Hi ,
I had for the last several years a PC with WinMe on it ,and I was able to configure it to run very stable by using a list of tweaks called trevs tweaks WinMe ver5.0 ,anyway does your friend have all of the originial CD's Dell sent him with the PC when it was new ,if yes there should be a WinMe recovery disk ? There is a web site called computing.net ,that has a forum on WinMe only as it does for each and every O/S ,there are some very knowledgable people at that site and Iam sure one of them can walk you thru differant ways to find the O/S on the H.D. and get it working again !
