re: reinstalling sound card, errors

Hi,

I've lost sound.   Error message " no ad1 codec driver" appears when computer is first started.

In device manager,  I've tried to update multimedia audio controller and also update intel(R) 82801EB smbus controller -24D3, with no success.

I've inserted dell cd to try to reload Sound Max.    When I do this, the error message "file k suser.dll on (unknown) is needed."

Have also tried to update drivers on Dell, but to no avail.

Please advise,

Try to uninstall the device form device manager, restart the computer and then install the drivers. If the sound card just stopped working you may want to get the device tested to make sure nothing is wrong with it.

Please bear with me.   I tried doing doing that.    The "found new hardware" wizard comes up.   When it prompts to search for the hardware,  I put the cd back in and it says it cannot find the necessary hardware.

The error messages:  " multimedia audio controller device is not configured correctly" and   Intel R smbus controller 24D3- an error occurred, the driver installation is missing a necessary entry.  This may be because the INF  was written for Windows 95 or later.  Contact your vendor.
