reinstall XP using disk Dell sent with computer

I had to reinstall Windows XP sent with my wife's computer when received from Dell. I started to reinstall the program and I received a message about NT something or another can not be found. That is strange as we have done nothing to the computer O.S. before starting the reinstall. Appreciate knowing what I am doing wrong.

Did you change your boot order first. The computer should be set to boot from your CD drive first. You can find instructions on a reinstall/reformat here.

    TOPcat831,

The procedure here or here may recover the PC Restore partition. The diagnostic partition is gone but the diagnostics are readily available from the Download link under Product Support above the forum.

What can be done if you did a clean re-installation and didn't realize that those extra partitions were there for a reason. Can Dell restore your system for you?
