Remote Desktop Connection

I am running windows XP Pro, and I was wondering if someone could explain to me how I need to have my "host" machine setup so that I can access it from outside my house like from my work or school.  Thanks

    I have to setup a VPN first if it's outside my network?  How do I make my computer a VPN server?
