Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of being able to do a clean install of W7. I need to do the in-place upgrade. The Dell Upgrade Assistant will not continue without uninstalling Dell Remote Access, but it will not uninstall. When using the UA, it will freeze. When trying to remove via Control Panel, it never goes beyond 'gathering information' (even in Safe Mode). I've seen other users post this problem, but the only posted 'solution' (removing registry entries) did not work.
I was experiencing the same problem and tried several times to use the Windows 7 upgrade assistant and even tried deleting the program manually through the control panel option.
Eventually it worked. It appears that the program is frozen at the stage where it says: 'gathering information' when you try to delete the program. When I took a coffee break and just let the program run (for a very long time) I was suprised when I came back and saw that it actually was proceeding with the program deletion.
So try again and just let it run until it completes itself. I don't remember how long it took but taking a break away from the computer while it was deleting helped.
