Am having severe problems getting Dell to send out the original OS set up Cd . Basically the OS has been corrupted or lost on my Dell Dimension 9100 and so can obviously not get to system restore to reboot. However when I phoned Dell to get them to send me the set up disc to reboot manually all they want to do is to charge me £60.00 to diagnose my problem ...I know what the problem is I just need the CD ...and they won't give it to me! Its becoming very frustrating ..and having to use linux so I can at least email and use internet ..but really need XP back . Has anyone had the same problem/or advice?
Dell, US, has a procedure to obtain free replacement discs (but there are limitations depending on the age of the PC). I saw a post on this forum about Dell UK having a similar procedure but I can't find it. Check the Dell UK support site and see if you can find it.
But, if the Disc is lost, it's not really Dell's fault and if you have to purchase a new disc get an "OEM" version as it's cheaper. All the Drivers can be downloaded from the Dell downloads HERE

Helenmoney, I am in the same situation as you are (just in a different part of the world). I need to reformat my hard drive and do not have an original OS to restore. I have no problem paying for a new setup OS if I could find a way to order it. All the contact options through the dell site want to charge me to diagnose my problem, as you describe. I have an XPS 410 which is two years old with windows xp home.
Can someone offer a phone number or contact link which will allow me to purchase an OS? Thanks in Advance.
When in any Dell Support web page (e.g. the above UK link), have you tried using the dropdown region links next to country flag?
There is the Contact Us > International Support link (LHS near bottom), displays regional phone numbers, but looks like it’s for travelling with laptops?
Dell does not have a "complete recovery" CD setup. It's just an Operating System Disc and a Drivers and Utilties Disc. The Operating System disc is a standard "OEM" Version that you can purchase from most retail computer supply companies except the Dell OS disc will only install on a Dell motherboard (BIOS). The Drivers and Utilities disc is really not needed as all the drivers can be downloaded from the Dell downloads.
The Dell replacement disc policy is much more liberal than some of the other PC Vendors.
