I have this roxio creator LE ware pre-installed in my dell system but i can't get it registered through the internet. It keep displaying the dialog, can't connect to the internet. My internet is workin pretty fine and i' m sure the firewall is not in the way. Anyone faced this similar problem or have any clue to solve this issue? Thanks.
Many programs use the connection that is defined in Internet Explorer to connect to the web. If you are using dial-up you need your Dial Up network connection listed in the Internet Explorer/Internet Options/Connections section. If you are using broadband there should be nothing entered - just the default Internet Explorer options.

not to be too pedantic, but if one is connected to broadband via a USB DSL modem (as I and many in UK are) that is treated by Windows as a 'dial up' connection because the connection does require one to 'dial' in (though no conventional phone connection is involved). In such cases the connection does appear in the connections tab of IE options.
In the US, or at least every system that I've set up, Broadband is broadband, whether DSL or Cable and in those cases where an Ethernet connection is used there is nothing setup in the connections of Internet Explorer. The connections section is left blank (or default). I would think it is the same in the UK as it is in the US.

Here in UK (and I think in other countries in Europe) many home users with a stand alone PC use an external USB DSL modem (i.e. the modem is connected to one of the USB ports of the PC; the ethernet card is not used) with a broadband-activated phone line. Telephonic devices share the line with filters that separate the two types of signal. Many ISPs offer such a modem and the filters free when you purchase a broadband service from them.
The connection is controlled via a USB ADSL WAN adapter that shows in device manager under one of the USB Root Hubs. The WAN adapter is installed by the drivers that come with the USB modem. The connection is not made automatically when you start the PC, you have to click on a 'dial up' icon to make the connection. This does not dial a telephone number, but sends a packet (user name and password) to the ISP server to initiate the connection. It is not availble in safe mode with internet access, as the drivers for the WAN adapter are not loaded in safe mode. As I said, in control panel, network connections, it shows up in the dial up section, and in IE it is also listed in the connections tab.
It is certainly broadband; at present I have a 2Mbps service, UK providers are beginning to offer home users an 'up to 8Mbps' DSL max service (the maximum speed you can get is controlled dynamically from the exchange and depends on the line quality and the distance from the exchange, which determine the attenuation and SNR (also, of course the actual speed at any time can be reduced below the maximum because of traffic congestion). Of course much higher speeds (I think up to 24Mbps) are available in major urban areas but they are expensive and essentially for business users.
I agree that if the ethernet card is used with a suitable modem then what you say is correct. In the UK ethernet modem/routers are mainly used by home users with a home network. I think it is still a minority of households that have a home network, however.
