Denny, Thank you for the response. I had reviewed that subject you referenced and did check that file... it was reading drivers=mmsystem.dll power.drv and I changed it to drivers=mmsystem.dll. No change in operation of computer.... any more suggestions? Thanks...

One solution of a similar type problem of 'not being able to connect to the Internet' was to rename the *.pwl file to .pwl2 or pw_. Then reboot (restart). This is only a guess. It won't fix the first error message.

Chuket, ThankYou for your response. I did a selective start through msconfig and got rid of rundll error(I think it was ICS) The bigger problem, and I think is underlying this whole situation, is Internet Explorer does not work and is unable to repair itself, needs to be reloaded....  am now trying to figure out how to do that. Any suggestions?

When you run the repair tool and it says it cannot be repaired, under details, what is listed as missing or wrong version? Also what version of IE are you using?

Chuket, Thanks for "staying with me".  The files under details were C:\windows\SYSTEM\msnsspc.dll and \msapsspc.dll. I stumbled into somewhat of a fix.... I was trying to locate the files or setup for IE5.5 in the cab\options folder and could only make sense of the setup icon within the folder.I double clicked it and it started examining the files within C drive, just like the Win98 CD does. I let it proceed figuring it will stop before it actually starts writing files(like the CD did, I've been looking all through that for IE5.5) Well I went to my other computer while waiting, doing more research on this problem. I went back and   "Oh S***!"   the program was overwriting Win98 files to the computer. Norton system guard had stopped it at some point because it wanted see permission to overwrite some files. Anyway there I was.... I stopped the process and windows wanted to reboot. It rebooted saying windows is starting for the first time. Apparently it loaded to a configuration of some time in the past. Lost some favorite places on explorer(Reorganized all that was left) BUT IE5.5 worked! Did a Windows update at their website and got myself back to IE6 with all the updates.I do have a minor printer situation, it won't print through LPT printer port says somethingelse is on it. Got it work through DOT4 port... what is a DOT4 port? What an adventure.....

    cap320,

A DOT4 port is an enhanced parallel port. See the information here.
