You might want to try it with the new drivers, I am assuming you have not yet.

If you get the update to SP1 after this, the better.

 

If it does not work, the workaround will be to uninstall the Sigmatel Drivers you now have and then Upgrade to SP1.

I recommend searching the Dell support website for the SigmaTel driver. Type "SigmaTel STAC92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver" in the search box, and check the drivers that are listed. You will have to download a couple of them, and run the installer to see what systems the driver is meant for. It turns out that for most systems, newer versions of the driver are already present on Dell's website, the problem is just that Dell couldn't get their act together, so the new drivers often are not listed under the systems they belong to. Complain to Dell...

Another workaround reported by some posters is to uninstall the drivers, reboot and let vista supply built in drivers. Dell is working on driver updates for sp1.

  The easiest way, is to just uninstall the simatel drivers. Vista will install it's own drivers.

I think they work just as well too -- someone else said there are less options, but nothing I noticed/used with my 2 speaker setup.

 

Thanks to gdwrench3 for letting us know we didn't even need sigmatel the other day - I would have never known... 

I was just wondering about this.  I read that the reason these drivers are incompatible is because it interfers with the installation of SP1.  Somehow when SP1 needs to reinstall drivers, the Sigmatel drivers mess up preventing this from happening. 

 

My questions.  Can't you uninstall the Sigmatel drivers, install SP1 and then reinstall the drivers.  Once the service pack is installed you don't have to worry about the drivers messing it up, do you?  I mean it's already installed.

 

Eh!  I just deleted mine and used the VISTA ones, they work just as well.

That's exactly what I did with my system packerFan07 (removed the Sigmatel drivers and let Vista install its own drivers). I certainly can't distinguish any noticeable difference, and of course SP1 installed as soon as the Sigmatel driver was removed.

Uninstalled the Sigmatel driver, rebooted, m/s driver installed, volia, sp1 66.9 megs installing right now.
