UNSOLVED
System Freezes
Inspiron 3 years old with Window7. System freezes or screen goes blank. Need to turn off and then back on with 'Normal windows load'. It may then work for a few hours or a few minutes. Dell did some checking and said it is not hardware but software problem. Need to buy service contract for them to fix. Based on the cost it would be better for me to buy a new one which would give me windows 10 included whenever it comes out.
So anyone know how to fix this?

Install the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery and create a 16 GB USB flash drive and restore from it:

Thanks for the help. I tried a few recoveries from recent backups and all failed. I have a recovery CD that I made based on what was suggested when I first bought the system. So after backing up what I wanted to save I reinstalled. So now I have a 3 year old version of everything and Windows is busy updating and I am getting new drivers and we will see if it stays up.

Great! I advise upgrading to the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery after Windows is fully updated. Utilities like the WSUS Offline Update may save a little time bringing Windows 7 up to date:

You can do factory system restore to see if that will resolve the issue. You can also format and reinstall Windows. Information on performing both task are at the link below.
