I'll start out by asking have you ever been so agitated with computers you cry? Yep, I have! :womansad: I've about had it!!!! This is kinda a long explanation but want to try to cover it all in one shot. Ok, a couple weeks ago I installed Roxio Easy Media Creator 8, things were ok for a week or so then all of a sudden I got an error message "drag to disc cannot load properly, please reinstall". I can't remember doing anything before that point that would have caused this. Actually, I haven't even used the program yet! I did also install kodak easyshare for my new digital camera. I uninstalled the Roxio program and tried to reinstall it. It seemed to install fine but when I clicked on the icon to open it I got the message to restart and if there was still a problem to reinstall yet again. Ok, fine. I restarted, still same message. So, I uninstalled it again and reinstalled it. Only this time before it even started installing I got a message "a network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: D:\RCP_core_30\efcce3.msi" Whoa..I'm clueless on that. It then went on installing but when finished it did everything backwards and uninstalled itself saying there was an error (but no explanation). I tried this a few times. Finally thought I would use system restore and go back a day to start fresh. It went thru the motions but gave me a message that the restore wasn't done because there weren't any changes, etc. I tried numerous different dates and places in each of the days but same problem.
Sorry to be so long winded but most of you on here are SO knowledgeable I was hoping one of you had something similar happen and knew an easy fix. I just want to get the darn program on here! And, going to Roxio.com and getting anywhere is like pulling teeth. I was finally (after hours of trying to get into support) able to leave a message of what was happening but I'm not holding my breath waiting for an answer, I've heard they just about never answer.
You can try using Microsoft's free "Windows Installer Clean Up Utility". This will completly get rid of any programs, including ones that won't delete from the Add/Remove programs list. This way, a clean re-install should work better.
I have Roxio EMC 7.0, and remember getting those Drag-To-Disc pop ups. Since I didn't use the feature anyway, I used "msconfig" to stop it. There's probably other ways around it, too. By the way, Roxio used to have a discussion forum, like this one. Don't know if it still exists.
Thanks! I found the windows installer cleanup utility trick on another board and did it. Worked! Thanks for reminding me about msconfig, I'll unclick the roxio drag to disc there. I'm SURE it slows my start up down as well.
For future reference, EMC8 also has a repair option in add/remove, click change, gives you the option to repair after the wizard opens. Or you could use the modify and (I think) selectively unistall Idrag to disk if you don't use it.
BTW you should only have one drag to disk utility installed, in case you also have, eg Nero InCD or the Sonic equivalent (forget the name, DLA?)

Thanks, guess I should have asked BEFORE I uninstalled and tried to reinstall! Ugh. When I installed it, it told me it was automatically removing the sonic DLA (came with machine) in order for it to work correctly. All seems to be working correctly now. THe only bad thing is the 114 mb update I'm trying to download! Yikes...I have dial up and it says it's going to take over 6 hours to download it! Gotta love it!
The download is for retail version only, and then only if in (say) creator classic or MyDVD, Help/about it says build 800B...
Mine says build 801B16A and the update would not install (message: not compatible with installed version); very aggravating. Seems like Roxio released several retail versions but have forgotten to allow the update to work on all of them, to get everyone up to 805 (which is the build for the download version). But I'm told that there isn't much difference anyway, if things are working OK.
The Roxio support forum is being revamped so is down at the moment, should be back up in the next couple of days. But it is a very good source of (user to user) advice, much like this one :-). I would give the direct link, only it will be different after the revamp; but you will be able to access it from
Thanks...I just checked mine and it is build 800....
I gave up for today - after about 4 hours and 59% done my dang connection quit. Always happens. I have to be working on the computer for it to download. You'd think for something that huge they'd offer a disc, ha ha! Does it make it any faster if I click save instead of run? Just wondering.
I don't know whether the download would be faster, but it is always best to save to disk if given that option, so that you can then install at your own convenience, off line. Also means that should you need to reinstall, you won't need to download the update again (assuming you keep it, of course).
You could consider a download manager (google for that). Such an app will allow you to resume a download from where it left off should it be interrupted, e.g. by disconnection. As I'm on broadband I don't have that problem, so don't use one and can't advise. Some come with adware, so be careful. some also advertise that they speed up downloads, but that is mostly hype.
