My computer recently froze and I had to hard boot it. Upon restarting, all of my icons are missing as is my taskbar. When I right click nothing happens. All I can do is run the task manager, but if I do anything with that, it freezes and says explorer is not responding. Please help.
Start to the boot menu (begin tapping F8 when the computer starts and the boot menu will appear). Select to boot with "Last known Good Configuration" and see if the system will boot. If not, you may have to do a repair reinstall of XP using the procedure given
here. This should not disturb your data but will require you to download and reinstall all the Critical Updates you have installed since receiving your computer.
