I have a Dimension 4700 with two 80 gig Western HD's. It came with them. Computer suddenly acted like it power cycled and then a messagae saying Windows was shutting down because it would harm the equipment. Booting into safe mode gets me so far, but while searching the drive (either one), it will do that again. I eliminated the memory, and video card so I tried to use restore points and get various messages saying that failed and then I can no longer use the restore point.  When I try to use the Reinstallation disk, I get messages telling me a file didn't load because it's not a valid Windows disk. I took out the primary and just connected the second one to the Sato 0 port. I formated with the Rinstallation disk and I get the same type message when Windows is loading. I think it may be corrupted, but I find it odd. Can a different XP disk be used in a Dell box. Or is there some proprietery restriction? And how do I recover any useful files from the first drive which out of the unit?    Thanks for any assistance. BTW, the drives passed the F12 diags.
