unmountable_boot_volume

Hello,
I have a Dimension 4400 which has been plauged w/ the blue screen form the unmountable_boot_volume.  Did run the diagnostics CD and performed the quick test and everything passed.  Last known config gets me to the Windows screen which is then followed by the blue screen, Safe mode or any other modes do the same.  I 've read on this error in the forums and I don't think my CD has the recovery console feature?  I don't have the Windows CD so booting from the CD is not an option, is there a way around this?  If I have to repalce the HDD, how can I install windows w/ out the Windows CD?

I'm at a loss as to what to try next....any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
Manny

Yes, I`m afraid you need to run chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console on the XP installation CD to fix this error.

Have a look at the "stickies" at the top of this forum.  There is one about how to get an installation CD
