Upgrade to Win XP?

I have a 3 year old Inspiron 3800 with 192mb ram running Win 98.  I see that Microsoft is going to 'officially' abandon Win 98 to developers and was wondering if I should upgrade to XP.  Right now Win 98 runs pretty good although I get a crash occasionally and my Softex Bay Manager doesn't work.  I am retired now and really don't need to buy another PC.

    yes

will take more system resources and HD space but much better OS and will crash a lot less.

be sure to backup anythin you really need if the installation crashes

Thanks, I upgraded to XP and it couldn't have gone better.  I added RAM bringing my total to 384mb and did the upgrade.  I think because I prepared well it went very well.  I did not need to update mouse, touch pad or video drivers.  Everything is working very well.  Even the XP CD Burner works.

I just upgraded my Inspiron 8100 from ME to XP and couldn't be happier.  The installation went great.  This was the second time I had installed it as the first time I just upgraded it and had too many configuration problems.  This time I did a clean boot of the system and it's working perfectly.  I followed the advice given through this site and was lead to this website.

I followed the instructions and the install went without a hitch.  I can't believe the difference in running XP from that resource hog ME.

Now the bad news.  Came back from vacation and booted up the compter and found that one of the Dell 128 MB Ram Modules that I had seemed to have bitten the dust.  I had been running just fine in conjunction with a PNY 256MB module that I bought before I upgraded to XP.  I replaced the bad module with an older 64MB one that I had on hand and it worked right away.  Now the good news, Dell warrants the module which I bought 2 years ago and they are going to replace it.

    Thanks Dell.

I did the upgrade on my 3800 laptop, failed the first time. Downloaded the latest BIOS upgrade, installed, then I installed Win XP. Runs great with only 128mb ram
