For some time now my Inspiron 5150 would show about 50% CPU usage with no particular reason for this. This would cause the system to heat up and the fan would run continuously. Using the Windows Task Manager I could see a process called aniServ.exe showing 50% CPU demand when this was going on. I used 'End Process' to shut it down and that seems to solve the problem. So far nothing seems to be affected by doing this, everything seems to work okay without it. Virus scans indicate there is nothing wrong with my version of aniServ.exe. This process is restarted each time the PC is restarted so i have to end it manually.
The firt link points out that aniServ.exe could be an infected substitute. The second link leads to links for scanning the PC. My version of aniServ.exe has the exact file size mentioned in the first link and passes the various scans I have done. Is there a place to get a known clean copy of aniServ.exe?
" Description: File aniServ.exe is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. The file size on Windows XP is 143360 bytes. The program is not visible. The file is not a Windows system file. The process can be uninstalled in the Control Panel. aniServ.exe is able to record inputs. Therefore the technical security rating is 27% dangerous. "
Yes I saw that but didn't see that as a red flag unless the version of aniServ.exe I have is infected. I assume that the real aniServ.exe was installed by the software for my Belkin wireless card and that it must be needed for something. So I would not think to remove it unless it was infected, and then only to replace it with an uninfected version. But the scans I have done say it is okay. Still I would like to get a known clean version of aniServ.exe to try.
