Windows Explorer Folders

Is there a way to prevent folders and sub-folders from being accidentally dragged & dropped?

I am using Windows XP Professional, Version 5.1 with service Pack 3.

What do you mean by "accidentally"? Of course, you can always drag and drop them back to their original location!

Your only option is to turn off drag and drop.

Right click on Start, select properties, Start Menu Tab click Start Menu/Customize, then the Advanced Tab, then in "Start menu items", Untick the "Enable dragging and dropping" box, hit OK, then OK.

Thanks for looking at my inquiry.

I tried your suggestion, but folders and files can still be dragged & dropped.

    I re-booted and they still d&d, so I re-enabled.

Thanks for looking at my inquiry.

We have a structured set of folders for each of our projects on our server.

Occasionally, someone will slip with their finger and click while scrolling the mouse across a the Windows Explorer screen, and a folder and/or sub-folders and files will get picked up & dropped inside another folder and the person usually does not even know they did it.

When the folder/files are noticed as missing, a search will find them and they get dragged back where they belong.

No damage has been done, but this is annoying and I was wondering if folders could be anchored down, then released for archiving, then anchored again.

Did some Googling out of personal curiosity - still on the shallow end of the learning curve.  But any chance that experimenting with file/folder delete permissions would do it?
