The other day - McAfee said that my windows update was disabled - I clicked on enable - And now when I go to Microsoft website to see if any non essential updates are available - I cannot see anything except that an error has occured. Error # 0x80072F76 -- My question is - should I disable the McAfee windows update - and if so - how do I do that - have tried to locate where that can be done with no solution.
The Microsoft Windows Update website has been revised. To avoid that error message you received and get the latest version of Windows Update, disable Zone Alarm, Norton SystemWorks, McAffee, Anti-virus, web accelerators, etc., then click on the Windows Update site again. Your Windows Update page should then be upgraded to the latest version and you should now be able to get the downloads you might need. Don't forget to immediately re-enable your software after the new version of Windows Update is installed.
Yes, it seems as though only web accelerators are the big problem with the new version of the Windows Update page--right now. I don't know if this is a glitch in the program or some beefed-up security effort on Microsoft's part. But anyway, for me at least, it's a bit inconvenient having to turn on and off the accelerator to get a WinXP update.
For your info Zone Alarm (by ZoneLabs, www.zonelabs.com) is a firewall that protects your computer on the internet better than the Microsoft supplied firewall. There is both a free and a paid version of ZA. I have the free version and I, as many others, like it a lot. You might want to try it.
Sorry for the previous email - after I sent it I realized after new windows page download it reset everything - and just started d/l that high priority file - even though I do not have office - corrected problem - everything is ok -
