Windows Vista Home Basic Product Key
I recently bought my laptop from a friend. The hard drive crashed and I had to replace it. Now my problem is that the product key (found under the laptop) is unreadable and I wanted to know if there's any way to recover it.
I have an inspiron 1525. Just for the information.

Once you have the disc, follow my wiki A Clean Install Install of Windows Vista.
You cannot employ the use of retail media with phone activation without the key and so you must use a Dell Windows Vista reisntalaltion disc.

If your friend gave you the Dell OEM Disk, no product key is needed to install the operating system.
If your friend did not give you the disks, have your friend do a Dell - Ownership Transfers
Then after the transfer, you can Request Backup Disks USA If in another Country, contact Dell Tech Support in your Country.
