windows XP won't boot

I have a Dimension 4400 running windows XP.  My problem is I cannot get windows to boot up, when it tries it will go to a blue screen w/ error 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' and also 'stop: 0x0000000A (0x00000166,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x804F5BC0).  The computer will not let me start in any safe mode, it seems to get stuck @ agp440.sys file.  I tried to start using last known good configuration, but I get the same blue screen.  I did not install any new software or hardware recently, it all started when I tried to turn it on the other day.  I would like to fix this w/o having to reinstall windows and lose all my data.

Here's  a lengthy thread at Computing.Net. It looks like this problem can be caused in several ways. The thread contains solutions for some of them.
