XP boot up problem

When i boot up my computer it get this message.

Windows could not start b/c the following file is missing or currupt:

\windows\system32\config\system

You can attempt to torepair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-Rom.

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

I do that but it just takes me to C:\Windows

Anyone know what to do next?

Ok, i did the Kelly's Korner info, but know when i boot, the windows xp symbol loads and then nothing.  Just blank.  I try to go into Recovery Console using my xp disk, but now it asks for the administrator password, but it says its invalid.

    Any ideas??

I don't really want to reinstall.

    Microsoft Windows(R) Recovery Console

" The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality.
Type EXIT to quit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

    1: C:\WINDOWS

Which Windows Installation would you like to log on to
(To cancel, press ENTER)?  (or type 1 & press Enter to use 1: C:\WINDOWS )

    (next you get)
Type Administrator password :           (not Use Account (Computer/Administrator) password but
                                                                 default Administrator password)
(usually not set so just press Enter key & if not accepted set
Auto Logon to Recovery Console in Registry)
