Xp Pro where are you?

I have just installed sp2 onto my pc. It all seems to be working ok (although have to see what happens as time goes by) but I have lost the 'professional' part of the start up screen. Does this mean that microsoft have changed my os when installing sp2? I will be mighty annoyed if the system has been changed.

Service Pack 2 removes the "Professional" and "Home" information from the boot splash, that's all.  You haven't lost anything else.

For the official confirmation of Flooby's reply:

The splash screen that appears at startup does not display the complete Windows XP version information

Apparently the early stage of bring the two versions together . . it never did make a lot of sense to try to support two versions of the same operating system . .

Well, the 2 will never be brought together, maybe Longhorn will accomplish that.

The universal boot screen just simplifies things for MS, I guess.

Thanks for the replies folks. At least I now know it's not a problem to contend with.

If MS are to bring the 2 editions together does it mean that those of us who paid more for PRO get a rebate or those who bought HOME have to pay more? Or was buying pro worth the exrta cash in the first place?

( Not looking for replies to this, just waffling. Thanks for the replies)

Rest assured they will not merge the 2 versions. :smileyhappy:
