I have a company Dell Latitude D600 and upgraded to SP2 after 3 successful installs (2 x D400s, 1 x Evesham Custom Built) and I ran into a blue screen on 1st boot up after domain (ctrl+alt+del) login and a wait of 30 secs or so. The blue screen was BAD_POOL_HEADER (0x19) and a nice xp explanation that my computer just wasnt going to work! I could get into safe mode and i used a colleagues laptop to surf the web for some idea of what was going on. The pool header reffers to the new XP Driver Protection as part of XP SP2. If it loads a driver thats not signed or compatible, it boots you out of the system.

I called Microsoft who after passing me about for 30 minutes still couldnt work it out. o i decided to take matters into my own hands and work out what was going on!

In safe mode i disabled all the services and startup apps apart from the Microsoft ones and rebooted and i managed to get into windows, i re-enabled the apps and we were still going fine, so down to 3rd party services, 2 culprits in here (Symantec (Corporate AntiVirus) and Intel (Varying services)

I uninstalled symantec as that can be put back on at a moments notice, successfully rebooted and this time re-enabled the intel services and hey presto, blue screen.

Now the D600 has Bluetooth integrated, PROset wireless and Intel Centrino Processor. I was pretty sure that microsoft wouldnt have made such an admission as remove support for Centrino. so i guess its not that.

and it appears that a number of PROset wireless lan cards are no longer supported (and will not be) in XP SP2.
However my card isnt in the list, its just the 2011 or 5000 models. so with that onboard i removed all of the intel wireless apps from the Add\Remove Programs and drivers from Device Manager, restarted my pc and it picked up and installed the PROset card without the need for the software.

Fingers crossed no blue screens so far. I wouldnt roll it out across the whole company just yet, but with a bit of knowledge on what drivers are causing issues it could be a very successful SP.

Ive yet to reactivate Bluetooth as it conflicts with Lotus Notes 5 for some reason, but i might have a play with that this week too.
