XPS 8700, audio output device found

Hey everyone,

 

I have a XPS 8700 and i recently upgraded my graphics card to a geforce 1660 ti 8gb. I successfully removed the graphics card and placed the new one. 

I then had to upgrads the power supply to a 550 watt. Which i again managed to remove the old and plug in the new. 

Now for some odd reason windows wont recognize any audio speaker or head phone i plug in, i have tried every jack on the desktop. I have tried the following 

  • uninstalling drivers re installing drivers.
  • I have tried doing the realtek driver update
  • I have disabled the nvedia audio install
  • I have made sure that the onboard audio devices are enabled in the bios

I Have ran out of ideas other then buy a new sound card and move on, or pay someone to fix it lol.

    Have you checked Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Sound and in the Sound window Playback tab that the Speakers/Headphones is your Default Device?

    In addition to what @Vic384 already suggested, look in Device Manager to see what Audio inputs and outputs are being recognized and correctly identified.

    If none of that helps, it's possible the motherboard battery died while you had PC disassembled and BIOS settings got scrambled. So you might try clearing BIOS:

    1. Reboot and start tapping F2 when you see the Dell splash screen to open BIOS setup
    2. Copy down all current BIOS settings, to be safe
    3. Power off, unplug
    4. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
    5. Open case and remove motherboard battery (check Service Manual for details)
    6. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
    7. Install fresh battery (CR2032 3-volt coin cell, ~$2)
    8. Close up and connect mouse, monitor and keyboard
    9. Reboot
