Display blacklight turns off

Hi I have a XPS 13 9380 touch screen, the backlight for the display turns off and it wont turn back on until I restart the laptop. When you shine a light on to the display you can see that it is on. I have connected it to a external monitor and it displays okay on the external monitor.

I have attempted to uninstalled the UHD 620 driver which stops the display from going dark/dim but it is unusable without the UHD 620 driver plus it will automatically reinstall the UHD 620 driver after a restart anyways

Help please!!

More than likely the LED backlight is failing/failed. The common symptom is that you can a light on the screen and see a display but otherwise it is visible. I believe the LED backlight is not available separately (maybe a mode or RS can confirm this) and you will have to replace the display assy. That part is available here.

Run a screen diagnostic (hold D through powerup).  Does the backlight turn off during the screen tests?

If it does not, it sounds like a driver issue.

If it does, it's a hardware problem -- while it could be the backlight itself, it is more likely an issue with the power to the backlight, meaning the system board is faulty.  Since that is a very expensive part to replace, if the system is out of warranty, you may want to locate a repair shop with the equipment capable of diagnosing the cause -- you don't want to replace the display (expensive by itself) only to find the problem is the system board (which is even more expensive to replace)
