Studio XPS 1645 Graphics Issue

Hi, Seems I am having some issues with my Graphic Card lately. It all started with getting frequent BSOD and stop error code VIDEO TDR Failure, with atikmdag.sys failing.

in the last few days, there are random lines across screen, also when connected to ann external display.

Tried to update the Graphic Card, run an update, but does not seem to get any better, maybe I got the wrong video drivers instead.. After trying to update the graphic card, the device manager shows the  the display adapter with a yellow explanation mark.

Running the i7 chipset on win10  x64.1.PNG2.PNG3.PNG4.PNG

Any advice or help available as I would like to rescue this one.

The only rescue will be a replacement mainboard - this one has a bad GPU.

Given that the system is upward of 10 years old -- it may not be worth the cost and trouble.  If you're otherwise happy with the system, look around for a used system - it'll likely be the same cost or less than what you'll pay for a board alone.

well Ive had exactly this error and some success by heating up the graphics card with a heat gun and reseating the heat sink. it works for a few months the goes again. I found this link while looking for an explanation , I guess it is about reflowing the solder joints to the chip. I had wondered if there was a way to do it better ?
