XPS 15, Water spill, CPU failure
Hi,
So I spilled some water on my laptop while playing Civ. Immediately disconnected from the charger & turned off. I also wiped all the water off the keyboard immediately and flip it upside down. It took me about 15 mins to go find the screwdriver and remove the battery. There was no sight of water when I took the back off. I let it sit like that for like an hour and then reinstall the battery and try turning it on. The backlit come up & the fans run but no screen. The laptop try booting up a few times before I see 2 amber & 1 white blinking light which seems to indicate CPU failure. I don't know what to do next. Is recovery possible? If not, is there a way I can get my data off the drive?

This has happen to me before. I went online and found this suggestion and it worked for me.
Remove the bottom panel, and remove any other parts that you can. Like the battery you mentioned. I also removed the RAM chips, but I believe on this model you can't do that.
Then I put all the parts in a sealed cardboard box and set it in the sun for about 5-6 hours. The cardboard absorbs any moisture coming out.
Like I said, this worked for me. Put everything back together and it ran fine. There was a small water stain at the bottom of the screen in one corner, but that was it.

You can remove the drive and mount it in an external case, attach it to a working PC, and recover the data from it. The drive will either be an M.2 NVMe or a 2.5" SATA depending on the specific system model (XPS 9530, XPS 7950, etc.) you have.
Any repair will start with a replacement system board for anything but a very old (L501x, etc.) XPS 15 model.
