Installing more RAM will not void the warranty. Now keep in mind that if you have problems with the RAM you install, it is not covered by Dell's warranty. Also if during the installation a component is damaged that is not covered either. But take your time, follow the service manual directions and you will be fine. You did not state which exact model of G7 you have but if you go to the Dell support page and type in your service tag number, under documentation you will find the service manual.
