Inspiron 5680 adding additional drives question?
Hi all,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 5680 with an i7 – 8700 an RTX 2060, with 8GB’s of RAM, along with a 128GB M.2 SSD drive and a 1TB HD inside.
I’d like to also add an additional "Samsung 1TB 7200 RPM HD" and a "Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB SSD" to this machine which I have spare. As I understand it this Inspiron has a 460W PSU and I just wanted to check if adding these two additional drives would be okay power wise?
Long term I would like to upgrade the PSU, but for the moment it would be handy if this PSU is capable of powering these 2 additional drives alongside the original/existing components without any problems.

Many thanks for your reply.
As you mention in your post the RTX 2060 recommended power supply is 500W.
The RTX 2060 came with this computer when I ordered it, but unfortunately Dell has only installed a 460W PSU to power it. Which has left me wondering whether to install an additional 2 drives in this machine, when the PSU may already be working overtime just powering the RTX 2060.
No I do not think you need to be concerned about that. One, the gpu and sata are on different power rails of psu, two, hdd/ssd take very little power. If you are not pushing for peak gpu performance you may get by w 460W driving the RTX. If you begin to experience sudden shut down then you know it is time to upgrade psu.

The hdd and ssd take very little power from psu. Your main concern is whether current psu can support the gpu. RTX 2060 recommended system power supply is 500W. I would suggest upgrade to 550-650W psu.
