Is Highly Active Topic

I2C HID DEVICE : This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed.

I have Inspiron 7359 2 in 1.

My touchpad has not been functioning properly, I can see the pointer and use it a bit but it dances all across the desktop. Only a few seconds after restart or start of the windows it works then behaves strangely - No issues when I connect Bluetooth mouse or on the touchscreen.  I checked the device manager and see a failure in I2C HID Device. I have tried to uninstall and update the driver numerous times but it does not work. When I check for Touchpad in Mic and other pointing devices, it's not there. I also tried the regedit to check the Synaptics but I don't see that specific options listed under my Softwares. Please help !!!

The error occurs when the I2C HID driver or Intel Serial IO components are missing, outdated, or corrupted, often after Windows or BIOS updates.

    Steps to Resolve

    1. Update Intel Serial IO & Chipset Drivers — Download the latest versions for your model from Dell Drivers & Downloads.
      • Enter your Service Tag, and install Chipset and Intel Serial IO / HID Event Filter drivers.
    2. Restart the system and check Device Manager > Human Interface Devices for I2C HID Device status.
    3. If still failing, Uninstall the I2C HID Device in Device Manager and reboot to let Windows reinstall it.
    4. Run Windows Update to apply all cumulative and optional driver updates.
    5. If unresolved, update the BIOS (ensure AC power and back up BitLocker key before flashing).

    6. Still need Help?

I have this issue too.  Code 10.  Uninstalling the device and restarting used to help.  Doesn't help anymore.  I can't use two-finger scrolling and most other touchpad-specific functions.
